Another Mater Private Brisbane first

“The patient made a rapid recovery from a potentially life threatening brain hemorrhage. This treatment, usually the domain of large Queensland teaching hospitals, was made possible by Mater’s commitment to cutting-edge technology and advances in image-guided, minimally-invasive medical therapy,” Dr Rice said.
The procedure involves performing high resolution cerebral angiography to delineate the position and configuration of the ruptured aneurysm under general anaesthesia. A microcatheter is navigated within the patient’s arteries into the aneurysm under image guidance. Precisely configured platinum coils are then sequentially deployed within the aneurysm. Once safely positioned the ‘coiling’ procedure results in occlusion of the aneurysm and allows subsequent healing of the blood vessel wall at the aneurysm site.
Endovascular cerebral aneurysm treatment requires highly specialised angiographic equipment to allow visualisation of cerebral vasculature and the aneurysm in two separate views simultaneously.
The Siemen’s Artis Zee biplane angiography suite allows the Interventional Neuroradiologist to perform diagnostic and interventional procedures safely. Not all aneurysms are optimal fortreatment with endovascular techniques, however the increasing variety of neurovascular platinum coils, stents and balloons allows for the treatment of ruptured and un-ruptured intracranial aneurysms.
