Taking patient care to a new level

Q1: What was the motivation behind the establishment of the Preadmission Clinic?
The Preadmission Clinic was established as part of Mater’s commitment to best practice and providing better service to patients. It identifies health needs and risks before admission, ensuring our patients are better informed and prepared physically and emotionally prior to surgery.
Q2: How does the clinic work?
Patients are contacted by clinic staff and offered the option of over-the-phone assessment or an appointment for face-toface assessment—incorporating bloods, ECG and X-rays if applicable. Alternatively, our patients can drop in for assessment while onsite following their VMO appointment.
Q3: What can patients expect as part of the experience?
During the preadmission assessment, patient’s individual needs are identified by our highly experienced nursing staff. If it is identified that the patient requires other services while in our care, we can arrange these for them. Patients can also let us know if they have any other individual requests.
As part of the preadmission assessment we discuss the patient’s health and medication history, as well as allowing them to raise any concerns or questions about their pending admission. Discharge information and advice is also available at the Preadmission Clinic.
We encourage patients to discuss any concerns that could affect their discharge, so we can develop a discharge plan to suit their needs.
Attending the Preadmission Clinic gives patients the opportunity to clarify anything they are uncertain about.
Q4: Is the service offered unique?
Although Preadmission Clinics are not new, we believe the level and quality of our service to be unique among our peers.
Preadmission services are now offered at all private hospitals throughout Brisbane and much of the country.
The service addresses our commitment and obligation to meet best practice standards and complies with licensing requirements.
Additionally, this service upholds our commitment to our Mater Values.
Q5: What is the overall vision for the Preadmission Clinic?
Mater Private Hospital Preadmission Clinic offers exceptional individualised care and is committed to enhancing our patients’ hospital experience by providing preoperative education, information and support.
Our aim is to obtain the information needed to ensure safe and optimal care of our patients while they’re guests at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.
The clinic’s staff provides excellent service, embracing the Mater Values of Quality, Care, Commitment, Dignity and Mercy.
