From the second half of this year, Medicare claim forms for your patients and your practice will be no longer needed as electronic claiming will be introduced.
Electronic claiming will allow your secretary and your patients to lodge Medicare claims using an EFTPOS terminal. The claims lodged using electronic Medicare claiming will be entirely paperless; your rebate will be paid into your nominated bank account, usually on the next working day. The system will also provide instant confirmation of a patient's concessional entitlement status.
Your paying patients can pay their account as they do now—by cash, EFTPOS, cheque or credit card. After they have paid their account, their Medicare claim can be lodged over the EFTPOS network and their rebate will be paid into their bank account almost immediately.
