Becoming exceptional

Becoming exceptional

Since 30 April 2007, Mater Private Hospital Brisbane has been running a showcase of a new, five-star service model which was designed with the simple notion to put the patient first. The new service model takes advantage of the unique skills of a variety of professionals to achieve the best result for patients, their friends and families. It features a complete revision of the way care and service is provided on the wards.

Early outcomes from the showcase have been very positive and I look forward to reviewing the impact of the changes with a view to service improvement across the board. You can read all about the new service model in this edition of Scope.

The new service model is just one initiative in a comprehensive project to shift Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Mater Private Hospital Redland into a new era of health care.

For the past six months Mater Private Hospital Executive Team has been working to develop a business plan for Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Mater Private Hospital Redland.

Entitled Becoming Exceptional, the plan outlines a variety of practical initiatives to help the organisation take the first transitional steps to reclaiming a leadership position in the provision of private hospital care in Queensland.

Incorporating feedback from VMO surveys, external analyses, master building plans and clinical service profiling, the plan will help position the hospitals at the forefront of a rapidly changing private health care industry. Further, it helps to define what it means to be a "Mater" private hospital as opposed to any other private hospital.

I am excited at the prospect of moving forward with the single notion of providing exceptional care for our patients in partnership with people who themselves aspire to be exceptional and I look forward to sharing the plan with Mater VMOs very soon.
