Mater Adult Hospital Lipid and Cardiovascular Risk Reduction Clinic

Mater Adult Hospital’s Lipid Clinic is expanding to include cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk reduction.

The aim is to identify high risk CVD patients (such as patients with familial hypercholesterolemia), to help with the early detection of CVD, as well as achieving risk factor modification in collaboration with the patient’s GP.

Eligibility criteria for the CVD risk reduction program are as follows:

  • individuals with a strong family history or early onset of CV disease or three or more risk factors
  • under 45 years of age
  • significant dyslipidemias—total cholesterol >7 mmol/L, LDL >4mmol/L, Triglycerides >5 mmol/L, HDL < 0.8mmol/L, elevated Lipoprotein (a) and Homocysteine at any age.

Important: Please note that this clinic is not intended as a diabetic and general cardiology clinic. However, private referrals for general cardiology and echo will be accepted at Dr Karam Kostner’s private practice clinic at Mater.
