In line with Mater’s commitment to reducing our ecological footprint, Mater Private Hospital Redland (MPHR) was officially awarded partnership status with ecoBiz at a ceremony held at Parliament House in Brisbane in March this year.
MPHR Director of Clinical Services, Cheryl Clayton and Manager of Support Services, Gay Ryan accepted the certificate from The Honourable Andrew McNamara, Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation.
“As the first Queensland hospital to receive official ecoBiz partnership status, we extend our commitment to exceptional care to include the environment and the local community,” Ms Clayton said.
“I’m proud to accept this award on behalf of Mater Private Hospital Redland and congratulate the entire team for their dedication to promoting eco-sustainability.”
In 2007, MPHR was commended for being the first Queensland hospital to receive official ecoBiz partnership status. The hospital entered the program in 2006 and initial results from 2007 showed a decrease in water consumption, a review of waste handling and increased recycled waste collection. The hospital also found there had been a significant decrease in natural gas usage, with correlating decreases in greenhouse gas emissions.
ecoBiz is the Environmental Protection Agency’s signature partnership program with Queensland business and industry. It is a program that helps Queensland businesses adopt resource-efficient practices that are good for the environment as well as the financial bottom line. ecoBiz focuses on the areas of water, energy, product and procurement efficiency.
