Dr Philip Dalton is an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in knee, hip and shoulder surgery. He consults from sessional rooms at Mater Private Hospital Redland. He can be contacted by telephoning 07 3394 2055, faxing 07 3394 2066 or via email at phil@philipdalton.com.au.
I initially trained as a physiotherapist before completing my Masters Degree in the area of muscle physiology, followed by my MBBS and orthopaedic training. I completed all of my training in Queensland before completing fellowships in knee and hip surgery in the UK. I then held a position as Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at QEII Hospital from 2006–2009. I have consulted in private practice in orthopaedic surgery since 2007.
I’ve always enjoyed sport and being active. Orthopaedic surgery helps me improve the quality of people’s lives and keep them active and playing sport. My background in physiotherapy links well with Public gynaecology services at Mater First year highlights for Mater Mothers’ Hospitals orthopaedic surgery and helps me bring together both operative and non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions.
Helping improve the quality of people’s lives by restoring their mobility and function—from younger patients with knee reconstructions, to the elderly with joint replacement surgery.
It is difficult to single out one particular thing. Attaining my fellowship in orthopaedic surgery was the culmination of a lot of hard work and probably rates the highest.
Balancing time commitments is the most challenging job. Sharing time between my family and professional life is a constant juggle. I work in full-time private practice and also hold a VMO position publicly at QEII Hospital, as well as some teaching for The University of Queensland.
