A new dedicated emergency care nursery at Redland

Mater Private Hospital Redland is now equipped with a fully functional emergency care nursery. This nursery allows staff to respond effectively in the event of a neonatal emergency and includes the latest resuscitation technology.

The emergency care nursery is equipped with a Fisher Paykel Neopuff Infant Resuscitator, Drager Calo incubator and Siemanns SC7000 neonatal monitor which allow midwives to respond quickly in the event of a neonatal emergency. Babies can then be stabilised or retrieved to Redland Public Hospital or Mater Mothers' Hospital if additional care is necessary.

Anne-Marie Judd, Clinical Nurse Manager at Mater Private Hospital Redland and her team of experienced midwives are trained to provide emergency neonatal care as required.

“Staff working in the neonatal areas at Mater Private Hospital Redland have current competencies in advanced neonatal resuscitation and obstetric emergency care.”

“Our emergency care nursery allows us to attend to special neonatal procedures required for resuscitation and stabilisation of sick neonates. Having this facility at the hospital provides expectant mothers with peace-of-mind, that in the unlikely event of an emergency, we have the skills and the technology to deal with it,” Ms Judd said.

“Due to our relationship with Redland Public Hospital and our links to Mater Mothers' Hospitals we are able to provide 24-hour emergency medical cover and an extension of care to tertiary level should the need arise” Ms Judd said.

The quality of neonatal care at the hospital is further enhanced by the collocation agreement with Redland Public Hospital ensuring that private paediatricians from Mater Private Hospital Redland are able to admit sick neonates directly to the hospital's level two special care nursery.
