Mater Mothers' Hospitals Dietitian

As part of Mater Mothers’ Hospitals commitment to exceptional care, nutrition and dietetics services are available to your obstetric patients. To provide your patient access to these services, please indicate this on your initial referral to Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.

The service includes counselling, assessment, and lifestyle planning for:

  • healthy eating to achieve nutritional adequacy during pregnancy
  • minimising nausea and/or vomiting
  • appropriate weight gain during pregnancy
  • women at risk of dietary inadequacy during pregnancy (e.g. vegetarians, vegans, young mothers)
  • women who are under or overweight prior to pregnancy (to assist with appropriate weight gain) i.e. pre-pregnancy body mass index of <19 kg/m2 or >29 kg/m2
  • gestational diabetes
  • dietary management of pre-existing conditions (e.g. type 1 or type 2 diabetes, Coeliac disease).

The benefits of early dietary intervention during pregnancy are well documented and allow implementation of appropriate advice at important stages during pregnancy. This provides the opportunity to achieve the best outcome for both mother and baby. Referrals are also welcome for post-partum nutritional advice including nutrition for breastfeeding, appropriate post-pregnancy weight loss or other post-pregnancy related nutritional concerns.

If you have any queries regarding the services available, please contact me at Mater Nutrition and Dietetics on telephone +61 7 3163 8585. I look forward to working with you to assist in achieving optimal outcomes for your obstetric patients.
