Over the coming months Mater Health Services will install approximately 600 state-of-the-art bedside entertainment units to deliver real benefits to patients across campus.
The integrated Patient Entertainment System will give patients easy and convenient bedside access to local digital television, cable TV, on-demand movies, video games, audio books, Internet, email and instant messaging.
Mater Health Services Chief Information Officer, Mal Thatcher said the new entertainment system will further enhance the patient experience at Mater, with clinical applications planned for the near future.
“During the initial roll out, patients will have easy access to entertainment via leading touch-screen technology,” he said.
“Each unit will be fitted on a flexible arm that can be adjusted for the comfort of each patient.
“In the next phase of the project, the bedside units will also be used to deliver health-related information to patients and give clinicians the ability to access important medical information for discussion with their patients.”
In the future, the bedside unit will deliver other features including concierge services for private patients and meal ordering services.
