On Tuesday 25 October, Mater Private Hospital Redland hosted its final GP Education evening for 2005. Four of the hospitals exceptional women's and children's specialists presented insights into both gynaecological and paediatric issues faced by GPs day to day.
The night began with Dr Wei Seto who delivered a presentation on learning difficulties in children and highlighted the importance of working with parents and schools to ensure the optimum outcome.
Fellow paediatrician, Dr Julian Mellick discussed the importance of distinguishing between coughs, wheeze and asthma in children. Dr Mellick has special interests in paediatrics, respiratory, gastroenterology, and growth and development.
The paediatricians were followed by obstetrician and gynaecologist, Dr Micheal Mastry, who delivered an inspirational presentation on ovarian cancer. A family members experience provided Dr Mastry with a special insight into this silent killer. His presentation, "Ovarian cancer, a GP's perspective" focused on the importance of detecting the subtle early symptoms, prompting correct diagnosis which ultimately leads to life-saving treatment.
Finally, after returning from an emergency C-section (mother and baby doing well), obstetrician and gynaecologist Dr Paul Truscott presented an engaging case study on menorrhagia, outlining the optimum treatments available to women with the debilitating condition.
Mater Private Hospital Redland is committed to providing exceptional care in the Redland community and is proud to boast relationships with these and many other outstanding specialists.
