More than 60 Mater staff and doctors gathered at South Bank's River Canteen to mark the retirement from private practice of Dr Shirley Coghlan (physician), Dr John Cope (physician), Dr Owen Harris (gastroenterologist) and Dr Brian McDonnell (gynaecologist and obstetrician).
The event was devised as an opportunity for colleagues and friends to honour the retirees' dedication to Mater Private Hospitals over the course of their working lives.
Gastroenterologist, Dr Frank Crimmins delivered a heartfelt speech giving an insight into the retiree's careers from a clinician's perspective along with executive director of Mater Private Hospitals, Mr Don Murray, who expressed his thanks and presented gifts to the doctors to mark their retirement.
Mr Murray said that the function underlined the commitment that the four specialists had made to Mater Private Hospitals and emphasised the impact that they had made in their areas of specialty.
“Events like this highlight that outstanding people are instrumental in Mater's success in delivering exceptional care and I would like to thank all of the doctors for their commitment to Mater Private Hospitals over the years,” he said.
