The old fig trees in front of Aubigny Place at Mater Health Services have stood tall for the last 100 years and are a significant part of the Mater landscape.
To guarantee these magnificent trees are protected throughout the construction of the new Mater Mothers' Hospital and refurbishment of Mater Adult Hospital, the redevelopment team have developed a plan to incorporate the fig trees into the design of the new hospital.
As part of this plan, an aborist was consulted and already has implemented a number of measures to ensure the protection of these trees during construction.
The redevelopment remains on schedule with the start of the refurbishment of Mater Adult Hospital on levels 8–10. This work is due to be completed in April 2006.
