Congratulations are in order for Sr Regis Mary Dunne RSM, Professor John McAuliffe and Professor Aldo Vacca who were recently recognised in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Sr Regis Mary has been a member of Mater's community for 57 years and is well known across the hospitals—especially in laboratory services and bioethics. Sr Regis Mary established the microbiology department and pioneered cytogenetics in Queensland shortly after Mater Mothers’ Hospital opened in 1960, providing the only cytogenetic service in Queensland for eight years. Sr Regis was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) "for service to medicine, particularly through promotion and support of bioethics in medical research, and as a researcher in the field of genetics."
Professor John McAuliffe has been Chair of Mater's board since Mater’s incorporation in 2001. He was on the former Governing Board for many years before that. John has been awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) "for service to the community particularly through executive roles in the areas of health care and public housing management, and to the property valuation industry."
Professor Aldo Vacca is well known across Mater's community from his many years at Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Prof Vacca was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) "for service to medicine in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology, particularly through the research and promotion of the technique of vacuum extraction delivery in obstetric practice."
101 Queenslanders were recognised in the 2007 Queen’s Birthday Honours List representing fields as diverse as tennis, chemistry, landscape painting and philanthropy.
