After receiving his general surgical fellowship, Dr David Wilkinson spent three years in specialist breast and endocrine surgical units in Brisbane and Bristol, United Kingdom. He has worked in this subspecialty since 1996.
He finds management of breast and thyroid cancer very satisfying as excellent outcomes are being achieved using surgical techniques which minimise side effects and by tailoring treatment to individual patient circumstances. His special interests include sentinel node biopsy for breast cancer, minimal access thyroid and parathyroid surgery and laparoscopic adrenalectomy.
Dr Wilkinson has added new technology to his practice, including improved harmonic shears and intra-operative nerve monitoring for thyroidectomy.
He is the current chairman of the Breast Specialty Group at Mater Private Breast Cancer Centre and consults both at the Brisbane Clinic on Wickham Terrace and Greenslopes Specialist Centre.
