Dr Saud Hamza ia general surgeon with a special interest in Breast and Endocrine Surgery.
He received his primary medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad in 1992 and finished his post graduate surgical training in 1999.
Dr Hamza practiced as a specialist general surgeon in Jordan and Qatar and in 2002 he had the Membership of the Irish College of Surgeons. Dr Hamza’s interest in Breast Cancer Surgery started in 2005 when he joined Professor Umberto Veronesi at the European Institute of Surgical Oncology in Milan, Italy for a clinical fellowship to practice the technique of axillary sentinel node biopsy in early breast cancer, a fellowship that was funded by ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology).
In 2006, Dr Hamza started at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth, before undertaking a clinical fellowship in Breast/General Surgery in 2008. During this year, Dr Hamza was involved in a research work to study the “Use of Optical Coherence Tomography in Axillary Sentinel Lymph Nodes for Women with Early Breast Cancer” a research that won the NSW Breast Cancer Institute first prize award.
In 2009, Dr Hamza undertook another Clinical Fellowship year in Endocrine/Emergency Surgery at Fremantle Hospital.
Dr Hamza joined the Mater Adult Hospital in 2010 and did a Clinical Fellowship in Breast/Endocrine/General Surgery. During this year, Saud was granted the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Fellowship.
Currently, Dr Hamza is working as a full time locum consultant in General Surgery with special interest in Breast and Endocrine Surgery at the Mater Adult Hospital and as a Senior Lecturer at Mater Medical School – University of Queensland.
