Biography


Dr Michael Beckmann is an obstetrician and gynaecologist and Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Mater Health Services. Dr Beckmann was appointed Director of Gynaecology in 2008 and then Director of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2009

Michael's clinical areas of interest are in lower genital tract dysplasia, conditions of the vulva, prolapse and incontinence, and the care of young women in pregnancy. Michael is a RANZCOG supervisor of training, a UQ lecturer, a DRANZCOG lecturer, and a visiting lecturer and tutor to the Centre for the International Medical Graduate.

Michael is chair of the Mater Mothers Clinical Practice Improvement Committee and co-heads the Maternity Stream of the Mater Mothers' Research Program. Michael's current research interests include induction of labour, the Bakri tamponade balloon, psychological morbidity following miscarriage, Chlamydia in a young pregnant population, and pre-conception care.
