Biography

Dr Victor Voerman is a rehabilitation specialist and principal of the Rehabilitation and Pain Management Group.

He works with the Brisbane Clinical Neuroscience Centre, is founder of the Queensland Pain Centre at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane and Director of Rehabilitation at Mater Private Hospital Redland.

Dr Voerman came to the Mater from Brunei, where he was head of the department of rehabilitation at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital.

Prior to this, Dr Voerman worked in the Netherlands where he completed his medical degree and undertook his advanced specialist training in Rehabilitation Medicine, a PhD in Pain Medicine, and post-graduate training in health care management.

As medical director at the Rehabilitation Centre Groot Klimmendaal in Arnhem, the Netherlands, Dr Voerman led a major re-organisation of the hospital to comply with the highest accreditation standards.

He said the most interesting aspect of his role was watching the psychological changes in patients with major loss of function or deconditioning who negotiate their way from depression to a return of motivation and a belief in their own capabilities.
