Construction on Mater’s newest hospital is progressing to schedule with the final stages of works underway. With much of the scaffolding removed from the façade, excitement is building for the completion of stage one.
The recruitment process for stage one of Mater Private Hospital Springfield is now underway with all nursing, administration and support roles being advertised. A number of early appointments have been made to assist hospital Director Fritha Mackay to build a leadership team that will be fully involved in recruiting the workforce in advance of the hospital opening later in the year.
In addition to the recruitment of staff, the installation of a Varian linear accelerator on 9 July signalled a significant milestone for local cancer patients and their families. The linear accelerator will be used for external beam radiation therapy by Radiation Oncology Queensland at Mater Private Hospital Springfield’s Cancer Care Centre. The state-of-the-art cancer centre, partially funded by $21.4 million from the Australian Government, will initially include a linear accelerator and 15 medical oncology treatment bays.
