Dedicated clinical care for young people aged 16 – 25
Mater has aligned existing and new services and programs to offer a unique environment for young people aged predominantly 16 – 25. Delivering the highest standards of clinical care, Mater Young Adult Health Centre provides programs for adolescents and young adults designed to address their emotional, social and educational needs.
 
Mater Young Adult Health Centre supports the transition of care for young adults from paediatric to adult services and provides support across a broad spectrum of specialties. Current services include: Outpatient Services, Emotional Health Unit, Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Withdrawal Service, and Mater Family and Youth Counselling Service *Qld Police Referral only 
 
Young Adult Inpatient Unit 
 
Located on level 7 of the Salmon Building, the 21 bed mixed medical and surgical ward young adult ward is a custom designed care environment that offers Mater patients a unique experience designed to meet their emotional, social and educational needs.  Patients are able to recuperate and recover with access to Wi-Fi, free to air TV, indoor and outdoor social areas and a gym.  
 
Mater Young Adult Inpatient Unit has no designated catchment area. Acute/urgent referrals are via Mater Hospital Brisbane Emergency Department, and non-urgent are accepted via Mater’s Ambulatory and Outpatient services. 
 
Mater Young Adult Health Centre: 
  • Manages acute presentations e.g. injuries and surgical conditions, via Mater Hospital Brisbane Emergency Department 
  • Manages chronic and complex health conditions 
  • No designated catchment area 
  • Provides clinical care with multi-disciplinary integrated support for emotional, social and educational needs 
  • Supports the transition of care for young adults from paediatric to adult services 
  • Provides support across a broad spectrum of specialties
