In loving memory

David joined Mater as a junior doctor in the late 1990’s before working at Princess Alexandra Hospital and in Southampton England, where he commenced his MD.  Returning to Mater in 2003, David quickly made his mark through his approach to physician training that delivered dramatic improvements in standards and results for those sitting exams.

David’s commitment to improving the lives of patients with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis was beyond compare and in 2013 after many years of work published the BLESS study – a world-first randomised blinded study of erythromycin in bronchiectasis.

He was a shining example of the way bench based and clinical research can productively work together and was instrumental in revolutionising respiratory medicine at Mater, elevating the respiratory unit to be one of the most efficient and effective in the country. He was an enthusiastic and prolific author whose astonishing output of papers, abstracts and presentations was achieved while maintaining a full time position in respiratory medicine at Mater.

In addition to his extraordinary clinical achievements, David was a keen runner and cyclist, loved camping with his family and being at the beach with those he loved. He loved sport and in particular beating England in the Ashes.

David was highly respected clinician and researcher of international standing whose research expertise and talent was matched by a commitment to public health. He will be deeply missed by his patients, colleagues and family who will remember his inspirational life and achievements.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
