Dr Greg Treston

Dr Greg Treston is the new Director at Mater Hospital Brisbane Emergency Department. Dr Treston is originally from Brisbane and was born at Mater Mothers’ Hospital. Greg attended St Finbarr’s School and Marist College locally before completing his medical studies at the University of Tasmania. Greg then spent the next 15 years working around Australia and overseas and after 20 years away he returned to Queensland in 2001 working in regional Queensland, most recently in Bundaberg. Greg’s medical interests are regional healthcare, emergency department procedural sedation and optimising emergency department performance to deliver exceptional patient care. Greg sees family medicine as the cornerstone of healthcare in the community and specialist services as an adjunct to that.

“I believe we all have our roles to perform to ensure excellent healthcare provision to the public, and understand that effective communication and hard work are the keys to multidisciplinary
patient management.

“I have worked in developing countries as a doctor, sometimes treating patients, sometimes digging latrines and understand that we in Emergency Medicine need to be prepared to do whatever it takes to get the job done, from complex decision making to pushing patients to X-ray.

“I’m keen to get feedback regarding the service that Mater Hospital Brisbane Emergency Department offers the community, and hope that together we can make a difference to patient lives.”
