Haematology now offered at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield

Mater now offers a haematology clinic staffed by experienced clinical haematologists at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield. The new clinic provides services for both public and private patients and delivers a convenient local option for Greater Springfield.

The clinic is managed using a comprehensive framework of coordinated care, providing review and treatment for haematology patients with malignant and non-malignant conditions, backed up by full Tertiary level services including apheresis and stem cell transplant at Mater Cancer Care Centre, South Brisbane and access to clinical trials available through the Mater Clinical Haematology Unit.

Fully supported by Mater’s partner Radiation Oncology Centres, the state-of-the-art cancer centre is partially funded by $21.4 million from the Australian Government and is located at 30 Health Care Drive (Off Sinnathamby Boulevard), Springfield Central.

Haematologists

The new clinic is staffed by the following haematologists who bring a diverse range of clinical interests:

  • Dr Emad Abro: Leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and non-malignant haematology including venous thromboembolism
  • Dr Raymond Banh: Malignant haematological disorders, lymphomas, acute and chronic leukaemias, myeloma and stem cell transplantation as well as non-malignant haematology - thrombosis and haemostasis, obstetric haematology and red cell disorders.
  • Dr Cameron Curley: Acute and chronic leukaemia, myeloma, lymphoma and autologous/allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
  • A/Prof Glen Kennedy: Malignant haematological disorders including bone marrow / stem cell transplantation.
  • Dr Elango Pillai: Acute and chronic leukaemia, myeloma, lymphoma and autologous/allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation

Private patients – rapid access

Referrals for private patients can be referred directly to Mater Cancer Care Centre:

Public patients

GP referrals for public patients are made via the Mater Outpatient Clinic using the Mater Outpatient Department Referral Form and are triaged by a consultant haematologist soon after receipt.

Eligible public Haematology patients who live in the Greater Springfield and Ipswich area will be seen at Mater Cancer Care Centre Springfield wherever possible.
