Mater chicks in pink and the Mater Private Breast Cancer Centre have partnered to offer a range of free support programs available to women who have undergone treatment for breast cancer. These popular programs focus on offering support, education and building resilience.
Lifestyle Management A series of free seminars which provide practical everyday advice on how to manage overall health and wellbeing. Groups are conducted by qualified experts in the field of breast cancer.
Places are currently available for people wishing to attend Seminar 1 on Saturday 21 March Food against breast cancer: What about triple negative? presented by Breast and Endocrine Surgeon Dr David Wilkinson.
Where: Mater Medical Centre, Vulture Street, South Brisbane When: Saturday 10 am to 12 noon
Healthy Women Exercise Program Conducted by a dedicated team of physiotherapists who have developed a program to target the physical and emotional wellbeing of women with breast cancer. Run over a 6 week period with 2 x 1-hour sessions each week in a modern, fully equipped facility with qualified physiotherapists.
Exercise: Gym circuit Pilates and core-stability Cardio Pelvic Floor exercises with diagnostic ultrasound Balance and movement control
Education: The importance of exercise after breast cancer Osteoporosis and exerice - injury prevention Continence and exercise Core-stability
Where: Active Rehabilitation, Woolloongabba When: Tuesday and Thursday 11 am to 12 noon (six week programs available throughout 2015)
Mothers' Group The Mothers' Group is an opportunity for women who have undergone the challenges of breast cancer to come together in a casual setting to discuss topics such as understanding the coping styles of children, impacts on relationships and sexuality and family care strategies.
Where: Mater Medical Centre, Vulture Street, South Brisbane When: Thursday 10 am to 12 noon (six week programs available throughout 2015)
