Improved parking access at Mater South Brisbane

Car parking on the Mater South Brisbane campus has been a long-standing challenge with demand regularly exceeding availability.

Commencing in April 2016, Mater progressed a range of strategies in response to increasing difficulties with patients and visitors accessing car parking during the period of 9 am to 1 pm Monday to Friday which resulted in ‘Car Park Full’ signs placed on almost all Mater car parks on a daily basis.

Mater recognises the importance of providing our patients and visitors with easy access to onsite parking at a time when they are seeking caring and compassionate services.

As a result, Mater has implemented initiatives to increase the availability of car parking for our patients, identifying a group of staff that have been required to limit their parking days and avoid parking on peak days. Staff have also been encouraged to take up off-site parking options, carpooling and public transport.

Since the implementation of the initiatives there have been significant increases in car parking availability on the Mater South Brisbane campus and 2422 car parking spaces per fortnight have been vacated for our patients, visitors and late shift staff. These increases equate to an additional 242 car parking spaces per day.

These parking initiatives are part of an ongoing program to increase parking access for Mater patients at the Mater South Brisbane campus.
