Biography

Dr Richard Baer is a Specialist in Nephrology (Renal) and General Medicine. Richard studied medicine at University of Queensland and graduated in 2000 with Honours. In 2009, he completed his training in Nephrology and was admitted as a Fellow of The Royal Australasian College of Physicians. Since then, Richard has completed his second specialty training in General Medicine, and a Master’s degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine at James Cook University graduating with Distinction.

During his career, Richard has worked throughout Brisbane and Queensland, with many years spent in Far North Queensland where he gained a broad experience looking after acute and chronic renal and general patients.  He continues to provide patient focused, high quality evidence-based patient care in all nephrology and general medical conditions. This includes CKD, hypertension, diabetic nephropathy and other nephropathies, renal transplant, dialysis, supportive care, and general medical conditions.

Richard remains actively involved in physician and trainee education and continues to provide education sessions across Queensland to a variety of forums. He has been an invited speaker and presenter at a number of national and international conferences and has been published by Australian and International journals in nephrology research covering broad areas of clinical care and interventional nephrology.  Richard is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology, and a member and former chair of the Australian and New Zealand Special interest group in Interventional Nephrology. He is the former Co-Chair for the State-wide Renal Clinical Network for Queensland Health, and is a member of the Queensland Clinical Senate.
