Dr Simon Journeaux is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon experienced in adult/paediatric trauma, general orthopaedics, primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty. Dr Journeaux currently serves as Visiting Medical Officer at Mater Health Services, treating both public and private patients. Additionally, Dr Journeaux also has considerable expertise in medicolegal work both in preparing assessments and reports for Workcover/Personal Injury, and Medical Negligence cases. He has undertaken medicolegal work since 1997 both in the UK and Australia.
After gaining his medical degree at the University of London, Dr Journeaux commenced orthopedic training and worked at leading hospitals in Bristol, Yorkshire and London in the United Kingdom. He also completed Fellowship training in complex hip and knee replacement as the Bone and Cartilage Transplantation Fellow at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in 1996. Prior to moving to Australia in 2003 he was a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Liverpool, UK for five years. From March 2003 to June 2014, Dr Journeaux held the position of Director of Orthopaedics at Mater Health Services in Brisbane.
Dr Journeaux is dedicated to offering his patients the latest in digital surgery by using the VELYS orthopaedic surgical robot for Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA), where appropriate. Robotic-assisted procedures are generally less invasive and allow high surgical precision.
In a teaching capacity, Dr Journeaux has consistently provided supervision and teaching for medical students and Registrars. He is currently Honorary Senior Lecturer and examiner of medical students at the University of Queensland. Dr Journeaux also teaches and directs on the ASSET course run by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Dr Journeaux has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in medical and orthopaedic journals across a range of subjects relating primarily to lower limb orthopedic surgery. He also attends and presents at Learned Society conferences and meetings both nationally and internationally and participates fully in continuing professional development, medical education and research.
Dr Journeaux is currently serving as Commander in the Royal Australian Naval Reserve.
He holds GEPI accreditation with WorkCover Queensland and is a Member of Medical Assessments Tribunal, SIRA Authorised Health Practitioner Panel and WorkSafe Victoria Panel. He is also accredited with Comcare and certified with American Board of Independent Medical Examiner in AMA Guides 4th, 5th and 6th Editions.
