Service Availability: 

The General Medical service at Mater Hospital Brisbane offers a comprehensive service promoting individualised patient care. 

For the following conditions, referrals to other specialties are recommended: 

  • For Post VTE / ACS / CCF, hypertension and chest pain referrals please refer to cardiology
  • For fits / faints and headaches please refer to Neurology
  • For Joint pain please refer to Rheumatology

Referral Categorisation

Available appointments are provided to our patients based on clinical priority

This should be used as a general guideline only – categorisation will be based on the individual referral.


- Post Emergency Department/MAPP admission 

- Anaemia


-  Any patients with complex/undifferentiated medical problems

- Patients with multiple comorbidities that need medical optimisation

- Unexplained Weight loss

-  Fatigue


Mater endeavours to see all priority patients within 30 days from GP referral

Mater endeavours to see all semi urgent patients within 3 months from GP referral

Mater endeavours to see all routine referrals within 12 months from GP referral
