Mater Private Specialist Quick Find

Queensland Centre of Excellence in Autism and Intellectual Disability Health (QCEAIDH)

QCEAIDH clinical services are for people 16 years and over with an intellectual disability and/or developmental disability (including autism spectrum disorder) with heightened levels of complexity* and one or more of:

  • Mental illness or suspected mental illness
  • Complex behavioural issues not responsive to behavioural and environmental interventions
  • Physical health conditions, or physical illness where treatment is impacted by the individual’s intellectual or developmental disability
  • Potentially inappropriate use of restrictive practices
  • Other complexities or issues which have been difficult to manage in mainstream health services

*Examples of factors which may contribute to heightened complexity include:

  • Presence of a confirmed or suspected genetic syndrome
  • Severe or profound communication issues
  • Multiple medical and psychiatric comorbidities

QCEAIDH is unable to provide:

  • Assessment/medication advice for ADHD in the absence of other referral criteria
  • Emergency or crisis intervention
  • Ongoing management/ case management
  • Inpatient admissions
  • Free IQ or ASD assessments

The service is provided in a face-to-face modality for individuals located in Southeast QLD, and via telehealth for those located outside this area. If there are concerns about the ability of the patient themselves to attend the clinic in person, this can be discussed with the clinic so that alternative solutions can be identified.

Referrals can be made by general practitioners and specialists according to the referral guidelines.
