Dr Ryan Markham is an interventional cardiologist who specialises in the management of ischaemic and valvular heart disease. Dr Markham performs coronary and structural interventions including percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), transcatheter mitral and tricuspid therapies (TMTT) and congenital heart defect repair.
Dr Markham has performed over 400 transcatheter aortic valve procedures and over 2000 PCI with outcomes exceeding international trial data.
Dr Markham is a Visiting Medical Officer with consulting rooms at Greenslopes Private Hospital and operates at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane.
Dr Markham graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of New South Wales in Sydney. He completed fellowships in advanced cardiology and interventional cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane. During this fellowship, he obtained a Master of Philosophy from the University of Queensland, evaluating mitral annular geometry.
Dr Markham provides world-class care to his patients, having undergone further specialist training at Stanford University in the United States, completing a structural interventional fellowship. During his time at Stanford, he was involved in several trials evaluating patients with valvular heart disease.
Dr Markham was awarded a position at Stanford Byers Centre for Biodesign, assisting in the development of medical devices for use in patients with cardiovascular disease. Dr Markham continues to have a strong interest in research, biodesign and artificial intelligence in the medical space, working with organisations such as the Gallipoli Medical Research Foundation.
Dr Markham is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians. He is a lecturer at the University of Queensland, has published extensively in the field of coronary and structural cardiac intervention in international peer reviewed journals, presents regularly at international conferences and is involved in community teaching.
