Dr Sophie Burke completed her medical studies at the University of Queensland in 2004, graduating with second class honours. She was awarded her FRANZCP fellowship in 2013 after completing psychiatric training in both Queensland and Victoria. She is an accredited member of the faculty of RANZCP consultation liaison psychiatry. As a consultant, she has worked in a variety of settings across the public and private sectors in both Queensland and Victoria. She is passionate about supporting people living with both emotional stress and concurrent physical illness.
Sophie has extensive experience supporting patients with, through, and beyond cancer having worked as a staff specialist at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre Melbourne. She also has a sub-speciality interest in perinatal psychiatry and women’s mental health, having worked at the Royal Women’s Hospital Melbourne, and in private practice, supporting women through all stages of parenthood, from pre-conception care, through pregnancy and the post-partum period. Sophie has been actively involved in teaching and examining consultation liaison psychiatry through the University of Melbourne’s Master of Psychiatry Course. She now continues to lecture psychiatry registrars in Qld through the Queensland Branch RANZCP. Sophie sees patients over the age of 18, at various stages of life with a range of mental health needs.
