Biography

Dr Phong Nguyen has been working as a Rehabilitation Medicine Physician at the Mater Private Hospital Brisbane since 2013.  He will be coordinating rehabilitation services at Mater Private Hospital Springfield.

Born and raised in Hobart, Dr Nguyen completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) with Honours at the University of Tasmania in 2006.  During his medical degree, he undertook research into traumatic brain injuries, as part of the Neurotrauma Register of Tasmania with The University of Tasmania and Royal Hobart Hospital.

Dr Nguyen is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine and a member of the Rehabilitation Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand.  Dr Nguyen commenced his advanced training in Rehabilitation Medicine at the largest dedicated private rehabilitation hospital in Australia, Lady Davidson Private Hospital in Sydney, before moving to Brisbane to undertake training in spinal injury rehabilitation at The Princess Alexandra Hospital.  He completed his Rehabilitation Medicine training throughout all the major metropolitan hospitals in Brisbane.

Proficient in all areas of Rehabilitation Medicine, Dr Nguyen has special interests in Orthopaedic (eg Post Joint Replacement, Orthogeriatrics), Neurological (eg Stroke including botulinum toxin injections for spasticity, Post Spinal Surgery, Traumatic Brain Injury, Parkinson’s Disease), Chronic Pain Management, Amputee, Reconditioning and Day Therapy Rehabilitation Programs.

Dr Nguyen is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Queensland School of Medicine, and is a Clinical Supervisor for advanced training of Rehabilitation Medicine Registrars.
