... and the popcorn was a hit too!

After months of preparation, casting calls and rehearsals, Mater’s GP Education conference – Golden Age of Hollywood, has closed to excellent reviews by attendees.

Held over the weekend of 21-22 July 2018, Mater once again hosted GPs from all around Queensland and interstate at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort and Spa for a Hollywood inspired GP Education weekend.

Mater offered a true variety spectacular in a choose-your-own-adventure program with 23 of Mater’s leading specialists and professional educators from sixteen different specialties, presenting on twelve themes, during eight sessions, over the course of two days.

This year, the well-rounded program offered yet more clinically relevant updates for GPs and premiered features such as ‘Young Adult Health’ and ‘Conversations in General Practice’, adding dimension to an already comprehensive program. This program was well received by attending GPs.

Another new feature from Mater included enhanced capability of the myINTERACT conference app. The platform upgrade included new in-app access to Twitter for live tweeting, and a preview of the much anticipated Mater Resources wall which provides registered users with indexed access to past and conference presentations, a Mater Specialist Search Directory, Upcoming Events and Generally Speaking, Mater’s newsletter for GPs, all at the tap of a finger.

There were also plenty of networking opportunities with delegates able to mingle with presenters, sponsors and colleagues during breaks, and many braving the cool weather to walk Mater’s red carpet boulevard for a great night out at the Golden Age of Hollywood Pool Party.

The Best Costume Award on the night was a draw, going jointly to Southport GP Dr Bel Gardon, and Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr Lisa Harris – AKA Marilyn Monroe. It was a treat to view the efforts made by all who attended in their glamourous gowns and tuxedos or dressed as their heroes from the Silver Screen.

Overall, the event was deemed a box-office success and summed up by happy delegates as “Interesting and relevant”, “Very useful”, and “A great conference ”.
