Message from Chairman of Mater Group Board

I am delighted to be writing to you as the newly appointed Chair of the Mater Group Board. My appointment was made official at the Annual General Meeting of the Board yesterday after Mr Brian Flannery’s retirement having served as Chair for six years.

I would like to begin this message to all Mater People by sincerely thanking Brian for his outstanding service to Mater as both that Chair for six years and Board Director since 2001. Brian’s contribution has been outstanding, and he has guided us through significant change to become a stronger, more resilient organisation. I wish him every success and happiness in his future endeavours and know that he will remain a close friend of Mater and the Sisters of Mercy.

It has been my privilege to be a Director on the Mater Board since 2011. In that time I have had a number of governance responsibilities including, being Chair of the Finance Committee, a member of the Strategy and Planning and the Board Nominations Committees as well as Board Director for Mater Research.

As Chair of the Group Board I am fully committed to governing Mater in delivering the Mater Group Strategy to align and unify our ministries—Mater Health, Mater Education, Mater Research and Mater Foundation — so we can continue to deliver on our Mission in a changing environment.

As a Catholic Ministry of Mercy Partners, we continue to be guided by the spirit of the Sisters of Mercy and their legacy lives on through us. It is our collective commitment to the Mater Mission that drives us to change so we remain relevant for the future and is the foundation of our strategic vision to empower people to live better lives through improved health and wellbeing.

In January I look forward to welcoming Dr Peter Steer as Mater Group CEO and together we will embark on a series of visits to meet Mater People from all areas, to hear your feedback and share our vision for Mater’s future.

While our vision is important, it is the work of all Mater People, who continue to go above and beyond and who strive to be exceptional every day that makes me so proud to be a part of the Mater community and I look forward to working closely with you all.

Regards,

Terry Crawford
Chair
Mater Group Board
