Start of construction of Woolloongabba bikeway

Thursday 20 December 2018

Work on the construction of the Woolloongabba bikeway project is now underway, due to be completed in late 2019.

The Woolloongabba bikeway project is part of Brisbane City Council's Better Bikeways 4 Brisbane program to extend Brisbane's network of bikeways and improve access to local destinations and the CBD.

Construction works will begin on Stanley Street and Annerley Road and will be progressively carried out along Stanley Street and Annerley Road in stages.

Where possible, works will be undertaken during the day between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday to Saturday.  Construction will involve:

  • removing and replacing the traffic islands
  • excavating and resurfacing of the traffic lanes
  • installing signage and line-marking
  • installing traffic signals
  • relocating utilities
  • landscaping works.

Brisbane City Council is working to minimise impacts but you may experience:

  • increased activity around the worksite, including deliveries of machinery and equipment
  • increased noise
  • increased dust
  • low levels of vibration
  • reduced speed limit of 40 km/hr along Stanley Street and Annerley Road for the duration of the project
  • lane closures and some traffic delays during off-peak and peak hours
  • detours, traffic controllers and signage to safely direct road users, cyclists and pedestrians
  • temporary removal of some car parks
  • temporary access changes
  • temporary relocation of some bus stops.

Further updates on expected impacts will be provided on the intranet as the project progresses.

If you have any questions about the project, please contact the Brisbane City Council project team on 1800 600 163 or email bikewayprojects@brisbane,qld.gov.au
