In many ways, this year’s pandemic has given us no choice but to deliver healthcare in a different way – completely redefining how, when and where we provide care to patients. Although we have faced a number of significant challenges, we have also been graced with a taste of the technological capabilities that can help us transform healthcare.
Whilst we continue to analyse the lessons from our response to COVID-19, significant work is already underway to increase the effective use of technology aided by a new partnership with Microsoft, a shift towards delivering care outside hospital walls, and the appointment of Mater’s first Chief Digital Health Officer, A/Professor Mike Beckmann.
Bringing extensive knowledge of Mater’s footprint across the healthcare landscape from his existing role as Head of Mothers, Babies and Women’s Health, Mike will take on this additional new role with the key objective to help transform healthcare, enabled by data and digital technology.
As CDHO, Mike’s immediate focus is engaging our community of clinicians throughout Queensland so that we can assess and implement the right digital health solutions to support health care delivery. Together, Mike and I will be connecting with you all to hear both your frustrations with current state and aspirations for our future state.
Moving forward, Scope will feature information on many digitally-enabled innovations that are already in place to support you and your practice, as well as provide updates on the exciting innovations to come that will help improve how you work and how you care for your patients.
I trust you will all join me in congratulating Mike on his appointment to this critical role for Mater, and we look forward to working closely with you as we step into a new era of modern healthcare.
Alastair Sharman Chief Digital Officer, Mater
