Dr Jim McGill was recognised in this year’s Australia Day Honours list, awarded a Member in the General Division for his significant service to metabolic medicine, to Biochemical Genetic Pathology and to medical education.
The Order of Australia is the principal and most prestigious means of recognising outstanding members of the community at a national level.
As a Biochemical Genetics Pathologist, Dr McGill works for Mater Pathology and has more than 30 years’ experience as a clinical metabolic specialist and laboratory clinical liaison specialist.
In his role, Dr McGill supervises the biochemical genetics testing for Mater Mothers’ Hospitals (including neonatology and pregnant women with inborn errors of metabolism) as well as genetic testing through Queensland Lifespan Metabolic Medicine Service at Mater Hospital Brisbane. Working closely with private paediatricians, neonatologists, other specialists and general practitioners, Dr McGill shares his significant experience and knowledge and has authored more than 70 publications on clinical genetics and metabolic medicine in peer reviewed journals.
