Mater welcomes Paul Darcy
Mater has welcomed experienced private healthcare executive Paul Darcy to the role of Chief Operating Officer – Mater Private Hospitals Brisbane and Redland.

Paul has recently moved to Brisbane from Sydney, where he served in leadership roles with Healthscope as a hospital general manager and then Chief Operating Officer of Northern Beaches Hospital – a newly-built, 468-bed public-private facility.

He previously worked for Ramsay Healthcare as CEO of Strathfield Private Hospital and Director of Clinical Services at Joondalup Health Campus, both in Perth.

His most recent role was as general manager of St George Hospital in South-East Sydney.

Paul is keen to make the most of Queensland’s sub-tropical lifestyle, having lived in NSW and WA since migrating to Australian from his native Ireland in 2006.

But it was Mater’s special mission that most attracted Paul to the role.

“I jumped at the opportunity to join Mater when I learned about this position,” he said.

“The ethos and values of Mater resonated with me personally.

“Mater has such a strong and well-deserved brand. People who know Mater have confidence in it and the people who work for Mater are proud to be Mater People.”

Paul began his career as a paediatric nurse in Dublin and says teamwork has been crucial to his success – and the success of the hospitals he has led.

“I’m passionate about delivering high-quality healthcare and being able to look after our community, but it’s also important to look after each other.

“We have to be able to work together – to build great, long-standing relationships – to achieve what we want to achieve.

“And what I have seen of Mater so far in this role has been very encouraging.

“There is a lot of investment in our people and in technology going on right now. I can see a great transformation happening.

“This is going to be an exciting time for Mater and for me and I am particularly looking forward to working with our VMOs as we look to further refine and build our private services across Mater Private Hospitals Brisbane and Redland”
