Mater Private Hospital Springfield direct admission process

A direct admission process is now available 24 hours a day at Mater Private Hospital Springfield.

Direct admission may be suitable for patients who:

  • Do not require ICU or CCU
  • Require work up prior to surgery
  • Have private insurance
  • Are experiencing an acute medical concern
  • Are self-funded
  • Have DVA cover

Examples of conditions suitable for direct admission include cellulitis, medical management of diabetes, general medical conditions, pancreatitis, pneumonia and simple orthopaedic fractures.

Mater Private Hospital Springfield does not have an Emergency Department.  The direct admission process is not suitable for patients requiring ICU or CCU admission or for patients with mental health issues, chest pain or multiple traumas.

How to directly admit a patient

  • Telephone the direct admission number: 0481 401 403
  • Provide the patient name, address and phone number
  • Provide an admitting diagnosis
  • Provide past medical history and medication history
  • Provide private health fund information or DVA information
  • Provide referrer name and contact details

After the above details have been captured the medical team at Mater Private Hospital Springfield will:

  • Contact an accredited medical practitioner to facilitate the acceptance of your patient
  • Ensure the admitting specialist contacts you directly for medical handover
  • Assist referrers to facilitate patient transfer once admission is confirmed
