Mater is pleased to announce that Dr Martin Wood has accepted the position of Director, Mater Centre for Neurosciences and will commence in the role in early January 2019.
Dr Wood will be well known to many of you as a VMO in Neurosurgery at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, as Director of Brisbane Clinical Neuroscience Centre and also in his previous role as Director of Surgery at Mater Children’s Hospital. He also holds a current appointment as a VMO at Queensland Children’s Hospital and is the President and co-founder of Brainchild Foundation Ltd.
His neurosurgical sub-speciality interests include paediatric neurosurgery, hydrocephalus, minimally invasive spinal surgery, skull base neurosurgery and fetal neurosurgery for spina bifida. Dr Wood has research interests in these areas, is well published and is regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings.
In his new role, Dr Wood will lead the development and embedding of future strategy and vision for the Mater Centre for Neurosciences, aligned to Mater Group Strategy, including the integration of health service delivery, education and research and safety and quality initiatives.
