Mater's Business Class Conference takes off

Over the weekend of 14 and 15 October, Mater’s Business Class conference brought together medical specialists and industry experts to deliver a comprehensive ‘flight plan’ for those entering, or currently in, private practice.

The conference, held at the Northern Gold Coasts' luxurious InterContinental Sanctuary Cove, attracted a broad range of specialists from a diverse mix of specialties including cardiology, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedic surgery, general medicine, nephrology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, anaesthetics, general surgery, colorectal surgery, thoracic medicine, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and infectious diseases.

Mater was pleased to welcome specialists from different stages in their private practice journey, from individuals who have been in private practice for many years to those that are considering their first move into private practice.

Mater Chief Executive Officer Dr Shane Kelly and Chief Operating Officer Sean Hubbard were manning the flight deck throughout the weekend and gave an overview of Mater’s commitment to build a solid runway for specialists who wish to commence private practice. Topics presented included business setup and structure, ATO compliance, workplace legislation, practice management, medico-legal risks management, retirement planning and patient privacy legislation. Futurist Greg Miller also provided a tantalising view on what the future of health care could hold.

The interactive panel of private practice experts provided an opportunity for delegates to ask any burning questions about setting up, growing and managing a private practice. Attendee feedback highlighted that this practical real-world advice from people living the private practice reality was invaluable.

To ensure that everyone had a pleasant trip, the conference also featured extensive in-flight entertainment and activities with attendees making full use of Mater’s exclusive Business Class Lounge.

We would like to wish everyone who attended Mater’s Business Class Conference a safe onward journey.
