Upgrade underway to Mater Private Hospital Brisbane operating theatres

Tuesday 15 September 2020

Stage one works commenced at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane on Wednesday 19 August, to upgrade and refurbish the theatre complex area.

Work is planned in stages with stage one including:
  • refresh of staff lounge areas including joinery, carpet and paint
  • refresh of the staff amenities including new partitions, floor covering, joinery, toilets and sinks
  • new wall, door and corner protection throughout the complex
  • fresh paint throughout
  • new floor coverings in some areas.
Timing
Stage one works will take place from 19 August to 13 September 2020.

Potential disruption
During the works, contractors will need to undertake a range of activities such as floor grinding, painting and other general construction tasks.  It is possible that staff and patients close to the area may experience some minor noise and vibration disruption as well as a possible odour from the paints and adhesives that will be used.

In the event that noise needs to stop immediately, key staff will be provided with an escalation process in which they can facilitate a temporary cessation of the work.

Stage two
Further works are being planned over the Christmas/New Year period when theatre activity is reduced.  During this time, theatres one to six will be closed to replace theatre pendants and undertake upgrades to electrical and medical gas infrastructure as well as refurbishing floors, ceilings and doors. More information will be provided as the detail becomes available.
