Basic ECG Rhythm and 12 Lead Interpretation

This course is relevant for those who work in Emergency, Critical Care, General Medical and Cardiac environments within health including General Practitioners, Cardiac Technicians, Registered Nurses, Medical Interns, Registered Midwives and Enrolled Nursing professionals.

This course is conducted over four four-hour sessions, and gives you the opportunity to:

  • demonstrate knowledge of relevant cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • demonstrate the ability to systematically interpret a rhythm strip
  • identify common arrhythmias and the impacts these may have on the patient
  • outline the safe management of the patient with haemodynamic deterioration due to cardiac arrhythmia
  • demonstrate the ability to systematically analyse a 12 lead ECG for the more common abnormalities
  • identify ECG signs of cardiac ischaemia, injury and/or infarct, and bundle branch blocks
  • recognise a normal paediatric 12 lead ECG.

You’ll complete a workbook with the support of our experienced facilitator.

This popular alignment program seminar provides a fast paced interactive 6 hour education event which continues on from Alignment Seminar 1.  It attracts RACGP 40 Category 1 Women’s Health points and covers the following topics: Preconception workup, fertility, diabetes in pregnancy, preterm labour, premature rupture of membranes, ectopic pregnancies, infections in pregnancy, post-partum examinations, breastfeeding, the neonatal examination, common neonatal presentations and the fussy infant.

If you’re a clinician who support students, graduates, interns and new staff in the workplace, this interprofessional program will further develop your clinical supervision skills. Using clinical scenarios and simulations, you’ll practice and strengthen your skills in:

  • identifying trainee needs, and effective clinical teaching techniques
  • delivering feedback, and strategies to overcome barriers to effective feedback
  • implementing the roles and responsibilities of clinical supervisors
  • assessing clinical performance
  • effectively supporting a trainee in difficulty
  • identifying and managing scope of practice issues
  • fostering connections with the clinical education team and using existing resources.
