Mater has one of the largest and most diversely skilled neurosurgical services in Australia. From within our word class centre of excellence, Mater Neurosciences Centre Brisbane, our multidisciplinary team achieves outstanding clinical outcomes across all areas of neurosciences.

Mater’s neurosurgery history started in 1954 with Queensland’s first neurosurgery department and Dr Geoffrey Toakley as the neurosurgeon. Today our strong team of neurosurgeons and neurologists continue to carry on Dr Toakley’s legacy by providing exceptional care to our patients.

Mater Neurosciences Centre Brisbane

In 2015, Mater took another step in the evolution of its neurosciences offering with the opening of the Mater Neurosciences Centre Brisbane. The Centre, located in the Salmon Building provides services for adults, adolescents, and young adults seeking specialised care for neurosurgery, spinal surgery, neurology and epilepsy.

As Mater strives for the integration of health, education and research, the Mater Neurosciences Centre Brisbane will continue this vision through the holistic collaboration of surgeons, nurses, clinical training and research.
