From within our word class centre of excellence, Mater Centre for Neurosciences, our multidisciplinary team achieves outstanding clinical outcomes across all areas of surgery, medicine, radiology, pathology, emergency care, intensive care, rehabilitation and nursing care.
Neurosurgeons at Mater offer a comprehensive service – catering to all age groups, with diverse specialisation in:
Mater’s neurosurgery history started in 1954 with Queensland’s first neurosurgery department and Dr Geoffrey Toakley as the neurosurgeon. Today our strong team of neurosurgeons and neurologists continue to carry on Dr Toakley’s legacy by providing exceptional care to our patients.
In 2015, Mater took another step in the evolution of its neurosciences offering with the opening of the Mater Centre for Neurosciences. The Centre, which will be located in the Salmon Building (formerly Mater Children’s Hospital building), will provide services for adults, adolescents, and young adults seeking specialised care for neurosurgery, spinal surgery, neurology and epilepsy.
The Centre will be designed to meet the identified needs of the community and will be the first ‘Centre of Excellent’ in the state and one of only a few in the country.
As Mater strives for the integration of health, education and research, the Mater Centre for Neurosciences will continue this vision through the holistic collaboration of surgeons, nurses, clinical training and research.
