Room Service at Mater South Brisbane

Wednesday 24 August 2016

Mater will soon become the first hospital group in Australia to offer an innovative room service model for patients across both public and private hospitals.

As of Friday 9 September the Mater Hospital Brisbane level 3 kitchen will be closed for renovations in preparation for the new room service model which will be offered to patients at Mater Hospital Brisbane, Mater Private Hospital Brisbane, Annerley Road, Salmon Building and Mater Mothers’ Hospitals.

The new room service model is scheduled to be implemented and operational throughout Mater Hospitals at South Brisbane by the end of 2016 and will provide differentiated service offerings for public and private patients.  The project will allow patients to order from a personalised menu of clinically suitable options which will be freshly made and delivered to their rooms within 45 minutes.

The hotel-style room service project will provide patients with an exceptional customer service experience, whilst contributing to improved health outcomes through enhanced nutritional intake.

The room service model was successfully implemented at Mater Private Hospital Brisbane in 2013 and more recently at Mater Private Hospital Springfield in 2015.

During the refurbishment of the Mater Hospital Brisbane kitchen Café on 3 will be closed to all staff and used for the preparation and distribution of patient meals.

Patient meals will continue as normal during the period of transition except for the temporary use of disposable paper plates, bowls and cups.
