Mater Occupational Therapy Services

Mater has comprehensive occupational therapy services available to both adult and paediatric patients. Please refer to the table below for an outline of services provided.

Patient referrals are triaged according to prioritisation guidelines, and are booked for appointments accordingly. If you have any questions, or for more information, please telephone 07 3163 6000 Monday to Friday, 7.30 am to 4.30 pm.

Referrals for all patients can be sent direct to the department via fax on 07 3163 2267.

For Patient with Private Health Insurance

To support the demand for occupational therapy services, Mater Health and Wellness* provide services for patients with private health insurance. Please refer to the table below for an outline of services provided.

Hand Therapy Services

  • Assessment and treatment for hand injuries
  • Customised splinting and prescription of orthoses
  • Wound and scar management

Lymphedema Services

  • The Mater Hospital Brisbane multidisciplinary lymphoedema service consists of a team vascular specialists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists.
  • Referrals to this service should be made to the vascular surgery department where they may either be triaged to see a vascular specialist for initial assessment or triaged directly to a member of the specialist allied health team via our alternative pathway.

Neurological Services

  • Assessment and therapy for mild impairments resulting from a neurological condition (e.g. stroke):
    • Cognition
    • Upper limb strength and coordination
    • Perception
    • Vision changes or loss
    • Fatigue management
  • Assessment and therapy for post-concussion syndrome.
  • Excluded from our neurological services:
    • NDIS-related assessment including access to NDIS
    • Conditions that require intensive therapy e.g. hemiplegic upper limb, moderate to severe cognitive impairment
    • Driving assessments
    • Assessment of home environment

Psychosocial Services

  • Stress management for:
    • FND
    • Chronic Pain
    • Cancer
