The service allows for rapid transfer to an acute care environment and access to specialist consultations in the areas of orthopaedics, urology, geriatric medicine, oncology and other specialties.
Inpatient rehabilitation programs include lower limb orthopaedics, upper limb orthopaedics, reconditioning and chronic pain management. A comprehensive rehabilitation program is developed with the patient and goals negotiated may include:

All patients referred to the service are assessed for suitability for program participation and admissions are based on the patient’s readiness and capacity to work towards functional goals.
Standardised therapy assessment tools and measures are used to document progress and outcomes relevant to the patient’s diagnosis and home exercise programs will be provided for all patients discharged from Mater’s rehabilitation services.
At completion of the program a comprehensive multidisciplinary report is provided for the referring doctor and treating GP. A follow-up medical review by the Mater Medical Rehabilitation Specialist is available following discharge.
