Mater Private Specialist Quick Find

Private psychology with Queensland Centre of Excellence in Autism and Intellectual Disability Health (QCEAIDH)

Private psychology now available through QCEAIDH

Supporting a person with learning difficulties to lead a healthy and happy life can often be challenging. Our expert psychology support provides compassionate care to Queensland Centre of Excellence in Autism and  Intellectual Disability (QCEAIDH) patients 16 years and over, and their families, offering specialised assessment and intervention designed to meet their needs and address mental health concerns.

Many benefits have been gained from psychology interventions for people on the autism spectrum. These include targeted assessments to gain insight into areas of strength and areas where interventions could be helpful, targeting concerns around anxiety and depression, and learning skills and strategies to increase social interaction abilities and manage emotional distress.

All QCEAIDH services are provided in a respectful, holistic manner where our team collaborate with others to support the best outcomes for families. These services are facilitated by a registered clinical psychologist from Mater’s Young Adult Health Centre Brisbane.

Private psychology sessions

Referrals from your GP, treating psychiatrist, or other healthcare provider are essential to access this private service. QCEAIDH can offer psychological therapeutic support services to people aged 16 years and over covered by NDIS funding packages.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Mater is a registered NDIS provider of therapeutic supports. The NDIS can be confusing and it is sometimes difficult to understand funding arrangements and find services that work for you, your family and your carers. Since the beginning of the program, we have been working alongside clients to support them with their NDIS-funded allied health solutions. We will work with you to tailor a range therapies that will help build your capacity to do the important things in life.

Better Access to Mental Health Care plan

Psychology services through QCEAIDH are also available under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative, which provides 10 sessions per calendar year. This initiative requires a referral from your GP or treating psychiatrist to access the rebate.

Extra support is available through Medicare until 30 June 2022 for people who have a mental health treatment plan in place. People experiencing severe or enduring mental health impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic can access an extra 10 sessions (total of 20 sessions).

QCEAIDH does not provide crisis mental health support. If you are seeking urgent assistance and care, please speak to your local GP who can refer you to dedicated specialist support. Lifeline Australia is also available 24/7. You can call Lifeline on 13 11 14. In the event of an emergency, please call 000.
